Abstract
The purpose of this study was to obtain teachers’, instructors’, trainee students’ and 12-14 year old students’ opinions concerning the qualities required of PE teachers. The 24-item Physical Education Teacher Qualities Scale developed by Demirhan, Açıkada, and Altay (1996) was used in the study. The scale was used in two forms. First, subjects selected the three most important qualities and graded them on a scale of 5- 106 PE teachers, 157 instructors, 240 trainee students and 309 students participated in this study which was carried out in the 1999-2000 academic year. The results of this study show similarities among the opinions of teachers, instructors and trainee students. The most important quality that the students favoured in their PE teachers was the competency of professional knowledge and skill.
