Research and Publication Ethics

Education and Science adopts and adheres to the ethical principles, frameworks, and standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

  • Original Content: The Journal publishes only original academic works. Manuscripts submitted must not have been published elsewhere or be under review by another journal. However, authors may submit their work to the Journal after receiving a rejection letter from another journal. Theses and dissertations that are not archived online are considered original and unpublished. Authors using content or data from theses must declare this clearly on the Title Page.
  • Authorship: Authors must comply with the criteria outlined in the “Authorship” section and avoid unethical practices such as gift authorship or ghost authorship.
  • Redundant Publication: Submitting multiple manuscripts based on the same data set, study, or experiment is unethical and strictly prohibited.
  • Citations and Plagiarism:
    • Authors must cite all relevant and verified sources appropriately.
    • Citation manipulation, plagiarism, or self-plagiarism must be avoided at all times.
  • Fabrication and Falsification: Fabrication or falsification of data or content is forbidden. Authors must ensure the accuracy and representativeness of their data. The Journal may request raw data or supplementary materials to verify transparency. Authors are responsible for providing all supplementary and ancillary materials.
  • Ethical Approval:
    • Studies requiring ethics committee approval must include a statement in the Methods section with any identifying information anonymized, and on the Title Page clearly stating the name of the ethics committee, approval date, and approval number.
  • Studies Involving Animal and Human Subjects: All research involving animal or human subjects must comply with the relevant ethical guidelines and principles established by appropriate authorities.
  • Conflict of Interest:
    • Authors must declare any financial, commercial, legal, or professional relationships that could be perceived as conflicts of interest on the Title Page. If no conflicts exist, a statement declaring the absence of conflicts must be included.
  • Correction and Retraction Notice: Authors are required to notify the Journal if any errors or inaccuracies are discovered in their published, preprint, or under-review manuscripts and cooperate fully in correction or retraction processes.
  • Journal’s Authority: The Journal reserves the right to retract manuscripts even after acceptance if plagiarism, ethical violations, or undisclosed conflicts of interest are detected.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers commit to:

  • COPE Principles: Adhering to COPE’s Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
  • Confidentiality: Keeping manuscripts and review processes strictly confidential and not disclosing any information.
  • Anonymity: Maintaining their anonymity by not revealing their identities to authors or other reviewers without permission.
  • Conflict of Interest: Declaring any personal, financial, or professional conflicts to the editorial office or declining to review if conflicts exist.
  • Professional Communication: Communicating openly and constructively with authors, editors, and reviewers; inappropriate language or behavior is not tolerated.
  • Timely Completion: Completing assigned tasks on schedule and informing the Journal promptly if extensions or withdrawal are necessary.
  • Impartiality: Ensuring a fair, consistent, and unbiased review process, preserving the integrity of peer review.
  • Reporting Misconduct: Informing the editorial office of any suspected unethical behavior or breaches of publication ethics.

Retractions

Eğitim ve Bilim initiates retraction proceedings for manuscripts found to involve ethical violations such as multiple submissions, false authorship, plagiarism, or data fabrication. The Journal follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines in managing such cases.
