Abstract
The aim of this descriptive study is to investigate museum education in Turkey and the history of the use of creative drama as a method in museum education. The study discussesmuseum education, definition of drama in museums, its history, its methods and techniques,its place in universities and the Ministry of National Education (MONE). The basic aims ofmuseum education are to create a museum culture in the community; to provide educationalopportunities; and to create awareness about museums. The key notion in museum and creativedrama is to interpret objects and the collections through drama. Role playing activities basedon creative drama methods, warm-up games, and improvisation performances are presentlycommon techniques used in museums. However, only when professional museum educatorsexperienced in creative drama and museum education are employed, the activities such asmuseum theatre or creative drama can be performed effectively.
