Abstract
This study examines primary school teachers’ and Principals’ perceptions of transformational and transactional leadership styles with regard to their individual, professional and school characteristics. 5 female and 45 male volunteer principalsand 646 female, 304 male teachers in 50 primary schools in Izmir provided information on a “Scale of School Principals’ Leadership Styles”. According to the findings of the research, school principals’ perceptions of transactional leadership styles vary significantly in terms of the socio-economic level of their schools. Teachers perceptions of leadership styles of their school principals vary significantly in terms of the work experience status and socioeconomic level of their schools.
