Abstract
The concepts of models and modelling have had an increasing role in science education literature. The value of models and modelling to science education has been increasingly recognized by science education reform movements. With this increase in recognition comes the need for a theory of model-based learning and teaching. Model-based learning and teaching is a sophisticated process that should be an explicit part of learning science. In this study the role of models and modelling in science education is discussed in detail.
